George Washington Witham & Catherine Bunch Witham

WOW! Becky's detective work has paid off - BIGTIME! She was able to track down a distant relative named Jack Payne who is also a descendant of George Washington and Catherine Bunch Witham. Jack has a picture of GW and Catherine that he was kind enough to share with us. GW and Catherine are the older couple in the back.

This was posted under the photo when it was sent to Jack Payne:

 "Your great, great, great grandfather and your Grand father's namesake. George Washington Witham and his Cherokee descended wife, Catherine Bunch. R.A. his son and family in the front"

We have Robert Alexander Witham listed as a son of George Washington Witham, so I assume that is the R.A. (along with his family) that is mentioned.

Also, we have suspected that Catherine Bunch was of Cherokee descent for a long time, as we've heard several rumors about this from multiple sources. The note that was included with this photo seems to further support this theory!

George Washington Witham and Catherine Bunch Witham are the parents of Francis Calvin Witham. Until the discovery of this photo, Francis Calvin and his wife, Mary Susan "Molly" Raines were the oldest generation we had photos for, so this photo takes us a whole generation back!
