New Generation Chart

In an earlier post, we listed each generation of the Witham family that we had been able to trace up to that point. If you recall, it looked something like this:

Charles Thomas Witham - b.1949 (Melody Pruiett - b.1954)
*ME* Christopher Michael Witham "Mike Smith" - b.1972 (Alicia Hanley - b.1960)

With our new information, we've been able to significantly expand upon this. Let me introduce you to several more generations of our Witham ancestors. Then, in future posts, we'll dig in and learn some fascinating things about many of these new folks. Enjoy!

  1. Mike -

I have been researching the Gowen family line which is intertwined with the Witham/Wittums in the Kittery area and would like to compare notes with you.

My 9th g-grandfather William A. Gowen settled in Kittery, was a Scot captured in the battle of Dunbar and sold as an indentured servant (slave)settling in Kittery after being freed.

His g-grandson William Gowen (my 6th g-grandfather) m. Judith Witham in 1748 dau. of Peter Wittum and Judith Gattensby.

His grandson William Gowen (my 4th g-grandfather m. Olive Witham in 1808, her sister Mary Witham in 1813 (daughters of Jonathan and Lydia Witham - about whom I have questions), and finally Sarah Haines Witham a cousin of the first two and dau of Aaron Wittum and Jerusha Dam.

Olive, Mary and Sarah all have same gparent Moses Wittum son of Peter Wittum and Judith Gattensby. They all married William Gowen whose g-mother Judith Witham was a sibling of Moses Wittum... confused yet?

If you're interested in comparing notes please contact me at ralphgowen at yahoo

  4. Hi, Pat! Thank you for commenting. I'm afraid I have no information on Caleb Witham at this time, but I'll leave your comment up along with your email, so folks will be able to contact you if they have information to share. If I run across any information in my research, I'll be sure to let you know, as well. Thanks again for commenting. ~Mike

  5. Hello my name is Tiffany Wittum.I was born in 1976. I'm the daughter of John and Judy Wittum. They are both in there late 60's.I have two siblings Todd 47, and Dawn 49. I wish our family had a website. We haven't had a reunion since I was a kid and I think if we planned one only half of us would show up. Congrats on your efforts to keep everyone updated in your family.-Tiff

  6. Hi, Tiffany! Thank you for stopping by and for commenting. Thank you for sharing your family information, too. We have a lot of Witham/Wittum people checking in from time to time. You might see someone you know if you check back with us from time to time. This family history blog has been a terrific way for us to not only share information, but also to attract other folks who are interested in Witham Family History. We have found quite a few extended family members this way. Keep in touch and Optime Merenti! (Witham/Wittum family motto)

  7. Any information on Maine Withams who could have been parents in 1805 to a Bradley Witham?

  8. Also, Bradley Witham had named his firstborn son Stephen Witham. I am thinking there might have been an older Stephen down the line, and I find that there were several censuses in a row featuring a Stephen Witham or Wittum in York, York, Maine. I cannot find much info on any such Stephen in York Maine during the time period. I did find a record of a Sanford, York, Maine Stephen Witham, briefly mentioned as being heir to one of Jeremiah Witham's 50-acre tracts on Shaw's Ridge/Grammar Street. Does anyone have the material to flesh out the line of Jeremiah down to Stephen and Huldah and the heirs?
