Raymond Lee Witham - Accident Report

Charlene sent me an accident report and a photo for Raymond Lee. I wanted to be sure to share therm with everyone.

I didn't know Raymond Lee very well, but I spoke with him on the phone a year or two ago to ask him questions about the family Bible that he had. Raymond Lee was very nice to me on the phone. He answered all of my questions and shared information about Grandma Josie with me that I wouldn't have if we didn't have that opportunity to talk. Let's be sure to keep Raymond Lee's family in our thoughts and prayers.

Raymond Lee is the great grandson of Francis Calvin Witham, the grandson of Charlie Witham, and the son of Uncle Warren (or Uncle Albert, if you prefer).

Thank you to Charlene for sending the accident report and photo, thank you to Mary Beth for sending out a family announcement, and thank you to Warren for posting Mary Beth's announcement.

St. Augustine man dies after motorcycle crash on International Golf Parkway

Posted: September 9, 2012 - 12:00am

A 68-year-old man died after a motorcycle accident Saturday morning on International Golf Parkway between Interstate 95 and U.S. 1.
The victim is Raymond Lee Witham, 68, of St. Augustine, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
This crash marks the fifth fatal motorcycle wreck in St. Johns County since July 8, and the second on International Golf Parkway. Scott Milton, 17, of St. Augustine, died July 25 at the intersection of International Golf Parkway and State Road 16 when his motorcycle and a SUV collided.
Witham was driving eastbound on International Golf Parkway when his motorcycle left the road while going through a curve, said Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Chuck Mulligan. The motorcycle drove onto gravel and flipped, and Witham was ejected.
He was wearing a helmet, according to the report. He died at the scene.
Factors that may have contributed to him driving off the road are being investigated, Mulligan said.
The crash happened around 11:30 a.m., according to St. Johns County Fire Rescue Lt. Jeremy Robshaw. International Golf Parkway was closed as officials cleaned up the wreck.
Witham lived off State Road 16 in the King & Bear neighborhood, according to the county property record.
He was the chief financial officer for a business called Las Vegas Shooting Sports, according to the Florida Department of State. That business is inactive. The business address listed is the same as his home address.
The most recent motorcycle fatality happened on Aug. 31, when Donald Dumond, 67, of St. Augustine, crashed while driving a motorcycle on Lewis Point Road.

  1. I just found out today about this tragic accident. I was blessed to know Ray when he was at LimitedBrands during our SAP conversion. Ray and I talked a lot about motorcycles. I too am a rider. I was in an accident on 9/9/2012 while riding my motorcycle, was just recently released from the hospital, and am currently recovering. My thoughts go out to the Witham family . I am so sorry for your loss. I know Ray will be missed.
